Play Therapy

Children don’t always have the words to explain what they’re feeling, but they do know how to play.

Play is how children naturally communicate. Through toys, games, art, and imagination, they express thoughts and emotions they may not yet be able to put into words.

Play therapy is based on the understanding that play is a child’s natural way of expressing themselves. It gives children the opportunity to work through feelings and challenges in the same way adults talk through their difficulties in traditional therapy.

When children engage in play in a safe and supportive environment, both sides of the brain are activated. Play therapy helps connect the emotional part of the brain (where big feelings are stored) with the thinking part of the brain (where reasoning and problem-solving happen). When these parts begin working together, children are better able to process experiences, regulate emotions, and make sense of their world.

It may look like “just play,” but meaningful healing and growth are happening beneath the surface.

“Toys are children’s words and play is their language.”
