Frequently Asked Questions

The awesome thing about therapy is that you do not need to be in crisis to benefit from it. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, navigating change, or simply not feeling like yourself, therapy can be a supportive space to process and grow.
If you’ve been wondering whether therapy might help, that’s often reason enough to reach out.
We’re always happy to talk through what you’re experiencing and help you decide if it feels like the right next step.

Your first session is called an intake session. If the appointment is for you, it will be just you and your therapist. If services are for your child, the intake session is parent-only.
This session is a time for your therapist to get to know you—your history, current concerns, strengths, and what brings you to therapy. We’ll talk through what you’re experiencing and what you hope to gain from the process.
The information gathered during the intake helps your therapist create a personalized treatment plan with clear goals to work toward. This plan serves as the foundation for your therapy and guides the direction of your sessions.
The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have.
-
Typically starting off it is ideal to see your therapist on a weekly basis to establish and build rapport. Beyond that, the frequency of sessions can be adjusted based on your needs, goals, and progress. This will always be a collaborative conversation between you and your therapist.

Everyone’s favorite answer– it depends. The length of time someone stays in therapy varies from person to person. It depends on your goals, the challenges you’re facing, and the progress made along the way. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Throughout the process, we’ll regularly check in on your goals and progress to make sure therapy continues to feel helpful and aligned with your needs.

Sessions are between 45-50 minutes approximately.

Yes, absolutely! However, virtual therapy is generally not recommended for children under the age of 10.
Younger children often benefit most from in-person sessions, as their attention spans, developmental needs, and engagement in play-based interventions are typically better supported face-to-face. In-person sessions allow for more meaningful interaction and tend to be more beneficial for this age group.

That’s completely normal! Therapy isn’t always about big issues—sometimes just showing up, sharing small thoughts, or reflecting on your day can be meaningful. Your therapist is there to guide the session and help you explore whatever comes up, even if it feels like there’s nothing specific to discuss.

Yes, your sessions are confidential. Exceptions include if there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse or neglect, or a court order. Your therapist will always explain these limits and answer any questions.
-
That’s completely okay. Therapy is your space, and you share only what you’re ready for. Even just being present and building trust can be helpful until you feel ready to talk.

Our practice is primarily self-pay; however, we are currently in-network with Aetna and Health Partners.
We have intentionally chosen to remain out-of-network with most insurance companies so we can provide care that is guided by clinical judgment rather than insurance requirements.
Insurance companies often require a mental health diagnosis and may place limitations on the length or type of treatment covered. In some cases, this can influence how therapy is structured.
By operating primarily as a private-pay practice, we’re able to focus fully on individualized care, maintain greater privacy, and tailor treatment to your needs without external restrictions.
If you have out-of-network benefits, we are happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Individual sessions are $150, Family sessions are $175, and Parent Consultations are $150

Keep it simple and positive.
You might say something like, “You’re going to have a special play time each week with someone whose job is to help kids with their feelings. You’ll get to play, talk, and do activities together.”
For younger children, it can help to explain that sometimes kids share their thoughts and feelings through play instead of just words—and that’s okay. Let them know it’s a safe space where they can be themselves.
Try to avoid framing therapy as something they “have to do” because they’re in trouble. Instead, present it as support—just like going to a doctor when your body needs help, therapy helps with feelings and big emotions.
Let’s Work Together

I would be honored to walk alongside you and your family on this journey.
